The Ideal Spot for Oudoor Family Recreation, Sport Fishing and Relaxation

Fishing
Fishing at Portage Bay Lodge is a fisherman’s dream, with plenty of Pickerel (Walleye), Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, Small Mouth Bass and Whitefish waiting to be mounted on the wall.
.
Early in the spring live-bait (mostly minnows) seems to be the most popular for all types of fish, while later in the summer “Lindy Rigs”, “Go-Getters” and Jigs with worms seem to bring home the biggest catches of Walleye. Pike on the other hand later in the summer are mostly caught in the weed-beds with lures like the old faithful “Red Devil” and the Trophy Bass are brought in with lures like the “Jitter Bug”

Portage Bay is approximately 2km x 2km with two smaller bays extending from the east and west sides.

At the mouth of the Bay stand “Jumbo Island” directing traffic up or down the “Montreal River”; Which allows fisherman to fish 10km down river to Latchford, or as far up as (50km) Elk Lake, with plenty of interesting ponds and slow-moving rapids to explore. Information on fishing surrounding area lakes for Trout or Muskee can be obtained at the main lodge during your stay

Boating
Portage Bay offers a beautiful boating experience which is ideal for sightseeing or for water-sports. The Bay is
3km x 3km with two small side bays, so there is always a calm area to water-ski, jet-ski or go tubing. And the river is also big enough for longer outings and easily navigated.  At the mouth of the Bay flows the Montreal River which allows boaters to travel 10km down river to Latchford or upstream 50km to Elk Lake.

Aluminium boats (14 and 16ft) with the option of 6, 8, and 9.9hp. motors are available to rent at the main lodge.  Boats are supplied with oars and anchors.  We have boat launching and docking facilities.  Gas, oil and tackle are also available at the lodge.

Hunting
The Fall offers many possibilities for the avid hunter. Bear, Moose, Partridge and Duck are very popular and plentiful in the area.  Especially in the immediate area surrounding the camp there are many trails to walk and ponds to set up a stake-out

Swimming
A small sandy beach with a sand pile provides children with safe area to swim and play. While off the main dock adults can dive into the lake and swim out to the raft.

Walking
The walking group meet at the lodge in the morning and head out for their daily hike.

Campfires
Each trailer site has it’s own campfire place with firewood available at the lodge. Once a week a camp bonfire (weather and restrictions permitting) provides a great way to meet the other campers, have some fun, eat some marshmallows and swap camp stories.
